A statement in response to today’s Amnesty report – April 6, 2022

The conflict in Northern Ethiopia has been painful and heart-breaking for all Ethiopians. That is why all efforts, including those by the United States, should be focused on maintaining the current truce and helping the country rebuild.

“Since June 2021 government forces have not been present in the Tigray region. Instead, it’s TPLF rebels who’ve continued to commit atrocities in Afar and Amhara.

“The Ethiopian government has taken significant steps to prosecute those responsible and ensure redress to victims, as acknowledged by the United Nations. In contrast, the TPLF have shown no interest in seeking justice for the thousands they have killed, raped and displaced. We understand there must be attention given to all sides responsible for this conflict, but we cannot ignore those who triggered it – the TPLF.
