We are pleased to see the State Department finally open its eyes to the atrocities being committed by the TPLF. Their aggression is the block to peace in Ethiopia.
We hope this signals the start of a new phase in relations between the United States Government and Ethiopia.
However, there is a critical threat to that in the form of HR6600, the bill proposed by Congressman Malinowski. It is expected to come to the floor imminently and will introduce more sanctions and punitive measures against the Ethiopian people.
This bill must be stopped. The journey to peace in Ethiopia has begun. The national dialogue is underway and rebuilding has started. If the US Government really wants to support Ethiopia, calling on the TPLF to lay down its arms, supporting that dialogue process, and reinstating the trade benefits set out in AGOA would go a long way.
